Attorney Carmel Hehr is a bankruptcy practitioner representing consumer debtors and small businesses before the bankruptcy courts in California. Carmel received her law degree from Southwestern University School of Law. Her law school honors include Dean's List and Trial Advocacy Honors Program where she actively participated in intramural trial competitions. During her law school career, Carmel worked as a law clerk at Hemar & Rousso, a creditor's rights law firm in Encino, California.
Carmel externed with the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office in Glendale and trained with the Office of the United States Trustee in Downtown Los Angeles. During her first year of practice she served as the law clerk to the Honorable Arthur M. Greenwald, Federal Judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California. She then worked as Staff Attorney for Edwina E. Dowell, Chapter 13 Trustee for the Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, and Santa Barbara divisions.
Previous Experience
Prior to her law career, Carmel worked with Bank of America as a Corporate Lending Officer and eventually as Regional Manager for the Bank of America Visa/Mastercard Division.
Carmel has unparalleled experience protecting consumers and small businesses using both bankruptcy and loss mitigation strategies, including loan modification, short sales, and debt negotiations. She has overseen thousands of bankruptcy cases in her role as the Chapter 13 Staff Attorney and as a debtor's attorney in California.
Practice Areas
Carmel is admitted to practice in all Districts in California, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of California. She is a charter member of the Central District Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys Association, member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the San Fernando Valley Bar Association. She has provided pro bono services to the San Fernando Valley Neighborhood Legal Service, the Van Nuys Self Help Desk, and continues to assist indigent clients through the Los Angeles Public Counsel Program.
Personal Life
Carmel is fluent in Tagalog and is actively involved with the Filipino-American Association. She volunteers on a regular basis at her local church, homeless programs, and enjoys spending time with her family and pets.
